While 1BASE in design is different from other
systems we believe and we can prove that 1BASE has many facilities
that makes it far more efficient doing many different, varying
and complex business jobs than competing systems.
The design and technical arguments getting combined
speed, flexibility, integration and data security
while achieving high reliability and very little downtime
with big data volume and many users
are described in the white paper.
Consequently these qualities
give us these business functions and advantages:
1BASE allows people on the job effortlessly to trace and track relevant data in many different job functions since input screens
can quickly be tailored to register data and reports are instantly
available for users and management.
Data records are assigned special
data fields used to activate
user specific programs.
Each record is assigned a unique primary key.
Users basically only have to learn to understand
1BASE concepts in one kind of data field,
one kind of records and one kind of application
to be able to work with any combination
of data using and reviewing any related records
in other applications.
They must read on-line information and take
relevant actions.
All data is stored in one kind of variable length data fields
in variable length
records in the order they are entered.
Empty fields occupy no space.
There is one system, one data type, one kind of records,
one database system
and one concept for all business functions.
The one data type approach is interpreted
.. are Thp
as short or very long number or text strings
by the field relevant programs.
This concept is reflected in the trademark name 1BASE.
The concept of one datatype reflects the reality
that all business data can be expressed in
variable length ASCI characters.
Business data are not graphical.
Picture info can be referred to and be stored outside
the database.
1BASE implemented zoom features long before
the World Wide Web made this common practice and implemented
specialized pop-up program facilities long before Java applets
did the same thing.
It is done differently except 1BASE very quickly
activates an unlimited number of
user and business relevant applications
which can be quickly customized.
Users get into relevant records
by a few key-strokes.
With a bar-code scanner just one point and one
shot to a bar-code label on a product, part or paper
brings the related record
and a user relevant application up on the screen.
It cannot be done faster.
The 1BASE word also reflects that any kind of job regarding
business data can be done from this one system swapping
small customized applications.
They are governed by any kind of data
combinations in records and user assigned functions.
The small end-user applications are binary
compatible on multiple operating systems.
They are created by using the 1BASE Programming
language.
Data field options can be instantly defined as
pop-up menu's without any programming.
1BASE applications can be expanded
in any direction without effecting existing applications
nor the data stored in 1BASE records.
while maintaining a unique and simple data design concept.
Consequently new facilities and applications can be released
as a steady stream to users contrary to most
other systems.
Our little application factory has practically
unlimited capacity for this purpose.
Also since all applications are very easy to read and understand
most people can learn to modify and expand existing applications
or program new applications based on examples.
No prior data design is necessary except following the design concept and
the universal data field description and
related field programs.
1BASE end-user applications are simply
a few or many small 1BASE field programs linked together
with some application specific program components.
This is why new applications or modifications
can be done and released quickly since
most of the program components
stays the same and
have been working for a long time.
Field descriptions and program functionality
are stored in on-line database field, sub-record and
program descriptions.
The indexing system automatically
maintains indices for all fields relevant to
assign an index.
Searches by combining indices allows
very fast response and index update even
with huge volume of data and users.
There is practically no penalty for this
efficient index facility.
It takes less than doubling the data space
of basic data to maintain and
practically no time delay despite
instant automatic maintenance
of 20-200 indexed fields in typical records.
The data part of the index system
maintains the variable length primary key to the related
record and takes very little space.
User work menu's and reports including pop-up
field options are created and referred in
1BASE records by special applications
and can be created and used by anybody authorized
to do so.
Records are maintained by customized applications with
some requested mandatory or suggested
actions to be taken by user with a relevant message.
Examples: Call management right now to discuss
special options for shipment to this customer.
Ask customer to pay $X to execute placed order.
You must fill in this field.
Ask for the order.
All records have a universal variable size optional data segment
for notes, descriptions, actions, job assignments, priority,
plan date and messages to relevant persons.
These data are part of a formal job assignment system
for job delegation and management control.
It is also part of a very efficient internal e-mail system
where related cases, contacts, companies automatically are
available for e-mail
since this optional data segment can be part of
a business tracking record.
New e-mail are listed in priority order
as are requested actions.
When planned task completion dates or priorities are changed or the
priority field is assigned a + indicating the task is done
the person responsible is automatically e-mailed
with the option to take action.
This system is very effective for customer support
since any person in contact with customer can
effectively, instantly and formally assign requested actions with
e-mail to proper authorities with a few key-strokes.
Many users typically work from formally assigned on-line
to do-list.
This concept makes formal assignments easy and
allows very low overhead and efficient management
control in fast growing companies.
Examples: Project oriented billing, shop floor control,
purchase planning in manufacturing, human resource
administration, complex industrial payroll or
simple arrive/leave time record keeping.
No matter what kind of requested IT task or kind of organization:
It can usually be done right away.
Applications are prepared for close to any
kind of desired language and unlimited different currencies.
Many different kind of companies can be operated
from the same database.
Prototypes for special demands can be made available
within a few days.
An example:
Projected time to do assigned task can be added and modified
as just one more field in the assignment transaction.
Programming time to implement, test, document and make change
available for users as part of any integrated system: 5-10 minutes.
Data about historic and future business accounting
floats effortless
from planned (future) status to
historic book-keeping
with a few key-strokes
when planned activity
becomes reality.
Plans stays as not yet realized or
canceled for possible later reactivation.
This concept handles any kind of sales/purchase ideas,
plans, quotes, commitments (orders placed), work in
progress, receiving/shipping and payments in/out
while securing precise asset/inventory tracking.
1BASE users are capable of working on a centralized
database server from anywhere in the world using
inexpensive Linux work-stations or more expensive
MS work-stations with special terminal emulation SW.
Many users can work via one low speed connection line
direct or via the Internet.
